Instagram makes affiliate marketing accessible to everyone

All Instagram users will be able to share links in Stories, eliminating the need for 10k followers for actionable content.

Instagram is the leading social media
platform for influencer campaigns, helping increase brand recognition and drive
sales by leveraging the engaged audiences of the platform’s creators.

Currently, it’s a challenge for affiliates to
promote brands through trackable links on Instagram. Although larger accounts
with over 10,000 followers have more in-app tools and features, smaller
influencers struggle to monetize content on the platform – restricted to a link
in bio to direct followers to purchase recommendations.

But this is all set to change following this week’s announcement.

Now, all Instagram users will be able to add
links to their Stories using the link sticker feature. With this, products,
links, brands or anything else the content creator wants to share can be easily
linked for their audience to click on and, ultimately, to make a purchase.

Why is this important for affiliate marketers?

The rollout of link stickers means Instagram
users, regardless of their follower count, can now include affiliate links
directly in their Stories alongside the content they’re promoting, versus
potentially being restricted to a ‘link in bio’ option – opening up more avenues
for creators and brands alike, as they’ll no longer be limited by benefits afforded
to macro-influencers. The resulting effect is more partnerships, sales, revenue
and commissions.

For creators on ShareASale, to start promoting
merchants in your Instagram Stories with the sticker, all you need is an affiliate
link for the page or product. Once you have added content to your Story, simply
select the tool from the top navigation bar and paste in the ShareASale
affiliate link. You can then add it to your Story.

Outside of the link sticker functionality, there
are a few other ways to include affiliate links in your content:

Link in bio: This is a great,
prominent place to add an external ShareASale deeplink that is evergreen and permanent. Save as a highlight: This allows users to click on your links beyond the traditional 24-hour
Instagram Story lifetime.IGTV: Incorporate ShareASale links within the video description of an IGTV
and add it to an Instagram Story (you can click to access your content
library).Discounts: Using ShareASale’s exclusive coupon codes, creators can use individualized voucher and coupon codes to encourage conversions. Merchants on ShareASale can create these for their affiliate partners within their account by going to Creatives > Deals and Coupons. These are assigned to specific affiliates and allow them to earn commissions for driving sales without needing a link.

If you are an influencer and not already part of ShareASale’s network, sign up here to start promoting our 16,500+ advertisers in your Instagram Stories. If you are a brand not working with ShareASale and would like to leverage the reach of our 225,000+ affiliate partners, please get in touch.

Facebook Updates Ads Platform to Mitigate iOS14+ Reporting Losses

Facebook continues to try to strike a balance between honoring user privacy and providing advertisers with accurate reporting following Apple’s iOS14 update.

Most recently, they have made some changes to their Aggregated Event Measurement (AEM) feature as well as other areas to help improve campaign reporting from those using Apple devices.

If you’re an affiliate using Facebook Ads to acquire traffic, it’s possible that these updates may improve your overall reporting metrics.

Let’s look more closely at the specific changes.

What is Aggregated Event Management?

Aggregated Event Management is essentially Facebook’s way of mitigating the impact iOS14 has had on their reporting. It allows them (to a degree) to still measure web events from Apple users. However, there are a limited number of campaign optimization pixel conversion events available to advertisers.

Here’s Facebook official description of AEM:

Facebook’s Aggregated Event Measurement is a protocol that allows for measurement of web events from iOS 14 users… Our solution is analogous to Apple’s Private Click Measurement, but is designed to solve for key advertiser use cases not addressed by Apple’s proposal.

Newly Introduced Reporting and Measurement Features

Here’s a full list of the most recent reporting-related changes and their purpose:

Third-Party Domain Reporting: Advertisers will be able to access reporting for ads that auto-redirect to domains they do not own. This is a first-time feature for the platform.

Improved Aggregated Event Measurement: New changes to AEM aim to make it easier for advertisers to understand which ads are responsible for specific conversions like app installs and purchases.

View-through attribution now default: Any new web campaigns with new web events will have view-through attribution automatically enabled. This feature helps to identify Facebook users that will eventually generate a conversion for advertisers without actually clicking on an ad.

Simplified Conversions API Set-Up: Facebook’s conversions API connects advertisers’ marketing data to Facebook’s ad platform to assist in ad optimization. The hope is that advertisers will take advantage of this feature which its set-up now simplified.

Facebook and many of those using its ad platform have struggled to find the same level of campaign success they were achieving prior to the iOS14+ update. This new round of updates re-introduces some reporting elements in hopes of providing new data that can help advertisers regain their previous form.
